Cottage without pencil
This small stone cottage is a lovely place where we sometimes sit and paint. Last time we were there I made a sketch of the house with the majestic pinetrees towering behind. Today I thought that sketch was a good starting point for a painting, trying out some ideas from master painter David Howell, whose book "Just Watercolour" I warmly recommend. In the book he presents his working methods with obligatory preparatory sketching, no pencil drawing on the painting and a limited palette with cool and warm primaries plus a range of earth pigments. It was fun to paint this way. Without pencil lines on the paper it is difficult to focus too much on details, so I think this might be a good way for me to adapt to a more painterly style.

Thanks Keith. Found this late, but nevertheless.
