Simplification Question

ree

Hi everyone. Happy to be here. I would like to paint this scene. I’m going to move “the girl in green” (me) a bit more to the right. I’m looking for ideas on simplifying this scene though. It seems my favorite photos always have a lot going on.

All good points here. Take a step back……what is your inspiration for painting this? If it is your presence in the landscape and the memory of being there, looking out to sea then include yourself in the painting. Place and moment will always make a more honest landscape painting than an academic approach to composition. That said, you could make a few tweaks, although I wouldn’t be too worried about simplification - it doesn’t strike me as a complex scene. If you moved yourself into the gap between the island and headland, and move the distant figures closer to the island than the edge of the frame, the scene would have a nice balance. Keep detail nice and quiet in the background
