Winter dawn, Wallaroo
My latest attempt... As a newbie to watercolour I'm trying to get into a regular routine of painting practice. This weekend I had two gos painting a photo of a winters dawn I took years in the Wallaroo region north of Canberra, Australia, where I grew up. The colour of the morning light and the contrast between the middle distance trees and the early morning mist was what I was aiming to show. Don't think I quite nailed either attempt , but making some progress along the way.
Any comments welcome!
Version 1 - I really struggled with the sky on this attempt, with lots of unintended green. Also didn't plan the adges of the distant hills and trees. Tried to fix both mistakes, which was itself a mistake! Foreground is flat and muddy.

Version 2 - Somewhat happier with this attempt, but still much to improve. Sky worked better and managed the edges of the trees over the distant hills better. Foreground is not as convincing as I was aiming for.

Thanks so much Paul - thats super useful. I'll give it a go in the next week or so and post the results!
