Upland Lake Scene

This is a painting of a pretty scene I saw on Trip Advisor. Maybe it wasn't such a good composition for painting, but i liked the reflection of the trees in the lake. I quite like the water, but as usual I struggled with perspective and depth. The mountain is too high and the tones of the distant trees need to be cooler. But the main problem was the foreground. It's turned out messy with an odd mixture of detail and abstract. Any comments would be welcome (helps me improve) and any ideas on what to do with foreground.

Hi John, thanks for this. Yes, I can see what you mean about the banks of the river. They could be more subtle and connect to refections in the water better. And I'm working on my treees. I still have too much branch detail. I'm trying to get that balance of a soft foliage and just the hint of the branches.😊
