Lake Mist Rising. (two pigments)

I haven’t been able to participate in a couple of weeks because as the saying goes, “Life happens.” And some of it happened to me….

I have popped in now and again to enjoy the beautiful art and instructive posts that have been shared. Oh my, the forum is growing!

Here’s my contribution to the theme of only using two pigments in a painting. I chose Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna, both by W&N. I am a great fan of W&N's Burnt Sienna.

I welcome any comments and critique on any aspect of the painting. The premier aspect of this forum is that it is a learning channel. In my evaluation of my students’ work, I have two categories that I offer feedback in… Glows and Grows. 😊

I’m sure you can figure out how I apply those two terms. Oh, and I am not teaching art/painting, but good and specific feedback is helpful in any endeavor.

I wish I could demonstrate for you how to put down a variety of colors in the area you want to be rocks, so that then when you use the scraping technique those colors show up in random areas just as they would appear in nature. It's so neat to see rocks appear in a way that you could never paint yourself in a studied fashion. Sort of those happy accidents watercolor is famous for LOL. The random colors as illustrated in this photo:

And a sketch I did to illustrate what I mean....

You just have to be careful not to overdo it!
