Last bales before the storm

I painted this on Fabriano. Of course the warning sign for the old railroad ended up exactly in the middle! But I managed to lift it out.

Also painted around the bales first, but they looked weightless?! So I put on Titanium white and then I felt they looked as big and heavy as they are. It was actually in the night so no shadows could be seen but I added those anyway.

Hi Seija! So nice to see your work here. I love these posts, since they trigger a discussion, which for me is the main reason to visit the forum. Reading Edo's and other's comments gives new insights and makes me think more in my own work. And since there is no right or wrong, all comments are valuable. I don't mind so much the composition as the somewhat flat values in your painting. Could there be more contrasts with light and shadow? Maybe Edo's suggestion to ground the "cow eggs" is one way to do it? I don't know...

I use a lot of Fabriano paper and I both love and hate the rough version with its strange surface pattern. But it all depends on what you paint on it of course.
