Washington's Crossing Bridge over the Delaware River

This Cafe is soon to be sold, hopefully the new owners will provide the same great service that has been provided over the years. The buildings behind are the home of the great architect Pugin, and the church where his shrine is situated.
I created this small βpen & washβ sketch this morning. It shows the ruins of a Gothic chapel (14th century) with a view of the Protestant church in my hometown. I used graphite watercolours for it; Iβm really starting to like this medium for sketching.

Nicely done, Heidi! ... and you have some earlier sketches of this view, too, don't you? In different seasons...
Itβs not exactly one of my usual subjects, but a few weeks ago I painted a smaller version of this watercolor as a thank-you gift for a good friend, since she loves the dune landscapes so much. I enjoyed the process so much that I ended up painting it again for myself.
Iβm not very familiar with this kind of landscape; I was there a few times many years ago, but I donβt really remember what it felt like to be there. Thatβs why I used photos from the internet as a reference.
Now, looking at the painting, I feel the composition turned out a bit too centered. The entry point into the scene is located almost exactly in the middle and the dunes on the right and left look quite similar to one another. Anyway, I like it.

I like the crisp precision of the bridge against the otherwise loose landscape. And Cartwright is a brilliant artist! Long educational videos. -Generous.
