I have been admiring Oliver's art for about 2 years and watch his videos with enthusiasm. And I learn a lot from him. Now I felt inspired by the Challenge 2024 and dared to publish a picture among “like-minded people”.
I took this photo at the beginning of November 2 years ago on the Stettiner Haff (Szczecin Lagoon; Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, region near the Baltic Sea). My son was amused: “Oh a lighthouse in the forest”, but I really like the trio 'reed-lighthouse-tree' with the autumnal colors. However, I'm afraid that in my watercolor version the three will compete with each other.
Thanks so much h for sharing this. It is such an interesting scene, and not an easy one to paint. I would have kept the background immediately behind the lighthouse almost devoid of detail, so that the building would pop out a little more. The foreground area is painted beautifully, as indeed are the background trees - you have achieved a perfect balance between detail and suggestion, which is not easy to achieve. Keep up the good work - you've captured the moment here, for sure! I'm intrigued by the inland lighthouse too....I assume this is right on the edge of the lagoon?
This is wonderful. The foreground grasses are especially well done, and overall, I think the painting is far more successful than the photo! The use of hard and soft edges really brings the focus to the lighthouse/center of interest. If I were to hange anything, I'd deemphasise the very strong black at the front edge which is pulling me away from the main focus. Crop?
