Buildings at a distance

Will gave Nidhi some wonderful advice about her latest painting she shared about rendering buildings at a distance, which got me to thinking.

He said, "my last comment is that your buildings on the far shoreline seem too big in comparison to tge Ref photo and therefore brings the far distance forward. I know I fight not to paint what my mind thinks I should paint - they are buildings I have to paint them as buildings and so I do - whereas they only need to be suggested as buildings and the viewers eye and brain will do the rest."

I was playing with this concept and then thought I would share with you what I came up with, and get your thoughts on it.

This is only at the beginning stages, and as you can see, I haven't finished certain areas of the foreground, if I ever do.

But if you can see, there is no detail at all on those houses along the shore line across the bay. Most them are merely little specks or shapes of white paper. You as the viewer then are free to create in your mind's eye what ever kind of scenario you might want to envision to illustrate whatever story the scene suggests to you. I bet if we could see the houses or farms or edge of a village each of you conjures up in your mind's eye through what is suggested, it would be so interesting to share!

Sorry that my photo is so blurry! I don't know what happened! I need to do something about my phone settings or my shaky hand!

If I should finish it, any thoughts or feedback? I'm sure that Marco, Trevor, and Paul would say that I should put a pile of scraped rocks in the right foreground! Right, Guys?

The specks have translated really well and the picture reads as it should. Love the dark trees and the way the main building (speck) nestles below them. Of course this is what we all know we should do but once that brush is in hand......anything can happen, less is more.
