5 Hours vs 25 Hours Trees

ree

On the left is a tree I made after five hours of watercolor practice and on the right is one I made after 25 hours of practice. Both done on postcard size paper. I found the Oliver tree tutorial before the first image but it took a while of practicing with it to get better. I’m still in my first year of watercolor but I can imagine that it’s something I‘ll stay with for decades. Maybe after a few decades I’ll be really quite skillful. I hope to keep a record of some of the early images to inspire others to get through some of the first 100 hour frustrations.

i once saw a Van Gogh sketch of a carpenter with a saw when he first took up drawing in his twenties. It was pretty stiff and it’s amazing to realize that he started as clunky as many of us beginners.

I’m enjoying everyone’s posts and feel grateful to have found this forum :)
