Grey November

This is from a sketch I made last autumn, it was a cold, grey, damp November afternoon, and I wanted to try and portray that by painting mainly in grey tones with just a little colour to emphasize the dull light. This time of year always makes me think of these lines by the English poet Thomas Hood ( 1799- 1845)

No shadow, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,

No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds!-

November!"

A lovely picture Trevor which sums up a grey day perfectly. Personally I think there is too much colour in the trees and the buildings are perfect. But then I am used to the Welsh weather! I love the distant trees on the hillside.
