Hi everybody,

I've been "resetting" a bit lately, focusing mainly on practising basic skills and techniques, drawing a lot, doing my mini landscapes, training my muscle memory in regards to colour mixing, paint consistencies, timing issues, brush strokes etc. Now and then, though, I just have to have a go at a more complicated scene, if only to see if anything starts to stick! 😆

I based this on a photo I found on the Fal River Ferry Service website, toghether with my memory of the place. It didn't say who owns the photo, so I won't post it here - visit their website if you're desperate to have a look! 😉 Anyway, my connection to St. Mawes comes from visiting the village during a coast path walk, some years ago. It's such a charming, tiny village, just a 15 min ferry ride from Falmouth, with stunning vistas (and pubs!), whichever direction you look.

Mind you, I still pay very little regard to more technical matters like composition, focal points, tonal values and such when I paint a scene. I have my hands full just trying to control my washes and colour mixes, and I don't want to make things more complicated for myself until I feel more in control. My approach is about having as much fun as I can while I'm learning, and if I have to think too much about the technical stuff when planning a scene, I get stressed, and as such, instead of painting, I'd rather go and watch another episode of Succession..
