Field with apple tree
Hi everyone, I am new here and in painting landscapes. I started taking watercolor painting more seriously last September with a focus on botanical painting (technically very different to landscape painting!). Also wanting to explore landscape painting because I feel very drawn to painting the landscapes of my adolescence now that my parents have both past away. So I was very happy to encounter the teachings of Oliver Pyle a few weeks ago on Youtube and immediately bought his book. Wanting to paint landscapes that have so many memories and feelings for me, his teachings are exactly what I was looking for!
Here you see my first attempt before I encountered Olly's video's. And a second one trying to apply what I've learned from him. It's not easy! My background trees are too strong in color/tone. And the field is very messy. I was trying to find a way to include the flowers in the field. I did this now in the wet on wet layer, dropping in the purple. I also see that the sunlit field in the back and the more shadowy field in the front have colors that are too different from each other. Getting the colors right is something I'm still learning. As are the brushstroke techniques. Anyway, I thought I post my first attempts here, to feel part of this community and get some feedback. Especially on how you would go about painting the field with wild flowers.

Thank you Michael!
