Attempt den Hoorn Texel

Hello Oliver and Edo,

I am an absolute beginner, coming from the Netherlands and have a million questions to ask. At first thanks for this forum. I have never been on a forum before, so that's new fo me. My favorite place to go in Holland is Texel. Edo I saw on your website you made a beautifull painting of den Hoorn on Texel. I am right at this moment trying to make this painting too. I hope that's allowed because off copyright rules??? I send a picure with this message, consider that the painting is not yet finished but i am struggeling getting depth in it. How am i going to do that? Darker foreground? And overall when I try to follow both your tutorials, Oliver and Edo, it never works out the way i visioned it in my mind. My paper does different things, my colormixes don't work out the way i want it, my brush is to wet or to dry and contains to much or to little paint, it is sooooo difficult. I sometimes rip the paper on which i am painting of the board and tare it into pieces out of frustration. But I always come back to try again, bacause it makes me so happy to paint. Both you're paintings Oliver and Edo give me a feeling of wanting to be there, in the painting, some kind of peacefull feeling. So with this message a picture of my painting in progress of den Hoorn. The sky is not like i want it to be. May be you can give some tips? I use Winsor and Newton proffesional paint and Arches watercolorpaper 300g/m2, cold pressed, grain fin. brushes of kolinsky in different types. Thanks for any answer you can give. I have al lot more questions to ask, but one at a time.

Greetings, Marjan

I think it is a great way to learn the basics of a new skill by trying to imitate your idols! And I assume that you are painting it just to train your skills? I think it looks very good! :) Maybe you could try to give the foreground a bit more (and warmer) color? It gives me a foggy cool autumn morning feeling!
