Burnham Overy Windmill

Day 2 of painting outdoors and another first - I took my painting gear with me on a walk!

I persuaded my husband to wait for me if I limited my break to 30 minutes and parked myself on the path, sat on my rucksack. It was really blustery so the conditions weren’t ideal but I managed a quick sketch (a very rough one) before everything blew away. I did nearly lose my hat.

Luckily it was quiet on the sea-defence path but one couple did pass me and judging by the luck they gave me, must have wondered what on earth I was doing. Hey ho, I’ll never see them again!

Back at the campsite I did another painting based on the sketch and reference photo. I’ve attached the photo, sketch and the painting, and I’m pleased at how the painting turned out. I was too heavy handed with the clouds, but that should improve with practice. And I haven’t included the foreground, basically because I didn’t know how to handle the lovely, but strongly sunlit fence. I also thought of including some of the brighter grass but then thought the colour might jar, so I stopped here!

Brilliant honesty 😁 Either way, it’s terrific!
