Arches and Shadows

Arches and Shadows

15’x22’

The arches and the light are inspired by Thomas Schwaller style of painting. Left the white of the paper intact to indicate the sunlight in the arches. The shadows turned out a bit darker than expected

This is my first large painting (half sheet), practiced 4 different smaller sizes before starting this. While the size gives opportunity to capture more nuances, I did not get the values/colors in the middle ground right. I will probably go back to painting smaller sizes, definitely enjoyed the 8x11 version with most of the painting done wet in wet

Appreciate any feedback and suggestions

Thank you Antonella for your kind words and feedback.

I see how I flipped the light/dark on the bridge where the train is vs the rest. It is one of these reversible parts of painting in watercolor and will file it a learning. Fewer brush strokes is always desirable, I did realise that I need to get bigger brushes for painitngs of this size
