Painting in the woods and dunes

Two paintings made on location - I really enjoy the immediacy of painting in situ. This first one is painted in the dunes, so the trees are literally surrounded by sand. The second is of a fallen tree in some woodland. I've put all the focus on the broken trunk to make it stand out against the rest of the trees. Comments welcome.

These look like they were painted quickly and decisively and that could be why they convey such a direct sense of connection to the place. I really like the composition of the second one.
