Uppingham Market Square
I lived and worked in Uppingham for many years and visited again recently.
This is a line and wash watercolour I painted using a sharpened matchstick in a bamboo holder to create the line drawing. I have to acknowledge the inspiration gained from looking at the work of John Hoar and Edward Wesson who are both wonderful exponents of this method.
I find it difficult to achieve their level of directness and fluency. I wonder if going bigger would help the drawing to be more gestural and less tight. This is about a quarter sheet Bockingford (15" x 11"). Advice/suggestions gratefully received.

If I knew any advice, I could use it myself. But what I notice you have very correct lines, although you did draw it with a matchstick. And miss the white of the paper. That makes it more vibrant. This looks to brave to match Hoar or Wesson.
But on itself, an excellent painting.
