Challenge August 2026 Path in a Forest

Every month, our watercolor group comes together for a special challenge. Our admin selects and shares a landscape for everyone to download.

From that moment on, each artist works on their own interpretation, quietly and independently, without seeing what others are creating.

Then, on the 27th of the month , something magical happens. We all post our finished watercolors on the same day.

By sharing our work at the same time, we keep our creativity pureβ€”free from influenceβ€”and celebrate the incredible variety of styles, choices, and techniques that emerge from a single subject. Same landscape. Different eyes. Endless possibilities.

Monthly challenge July 2026

I am a bit late but it is still July.

I hesitated to participate this month but then again, we are here to learn. So here goes. At first I painted a copy of the photograph but I wasn't pleased.

I made a sketch of the scene that I wanted to paint and decide upon lights and darks and focus. I then decided to make a few changes in the scenery and use of colors. I also made use of granulation which I am beginning to like more and more. I intentionally left an opening between the two main buildings to create a view to the buildings further in the background.

I used Baohong rough paper 36x26 cm and Daniel Smith paint.

Thanks for comments and happy painting everyone!

Very nice Anne. I do like your buildings and the sky. Terrific.

Happy to be here, just joined yesterday! I wanted to get this posted as my first effort with the monthly challenge. I still want to darken the houses a bit but ran out of time. Cheers!
