'Grand Tree' - River Aln Walk, Alnwick Gardens
Following on from last week, I've given another go at one of my original paintings. Here I have tried to reproduce a most wonderful tree located alongside the River Aln in the Alnwick Castle grounds. This whole area is a source of immense inspiration as the grounds were redesigned by Capability Brown in the mid-late 18th century, who was commissioned by the 1st Duke of Northumberland.
In any case, this old grand tree is located just up from the river bank itself and a fairly short walk from Denwick Bridge, if you are interested. Following extensive revision of @Olly Pyle's tutorials (tree's/colours - especially late summer greens) I decided to give this a go...

Here are my attempts... Still feel some work to do on composition, colour etc. but it all feels like it's going in a direction (hopefully the right one!!). Will probably go back to a few tutorials next as I think I need to brush up on some skills - I especially found the distant trees part difficult. Olly did cover this on one of his tree videos but I think I will revisit.

Happy painting one and all!

I too, have been revisiting Olly's tree tutorial's, he stresses that some branches come forward so prevent the tree being just two dimensional. The painting in your sketchbook shows the foliage coming in front of the trunk very well. I think Howard's suggestion to leave out the distant tree is good, unless you paint them pale grey/blue. I really like it.
