Light and shadow in gouache

Here a picture i made in my holidays from an evening scene in a little village in France.

I tried watercolour, gouache und pastels, cause I like to experiment with different creative approaches, to get more loose and not too fiddely. Gouache is a watercolour, but more opaque, than pure watercolour. I am not sure, if i could get the more abstract painting with watercolour alone. What do you think?

I fully agree Birgit, experimenting with mixed media is a great way to explore subjects from different view points. I don't think you would achieve the same effects with watercolour, I don't use gouache much, I mainly use acrylics for abstract work, combining it with charcoal and pastel and sometimes using watercolour over the acrylic as the acrylic resists the watercolour and gives varied effects.
