Childhood memories
May has brought a few frustrations which got me thinking back to simpler times many years in the past. This led me to try to paint from memory the rustic mountain cabin constructed by my grandfather in the late 1920's. For a number of years my older brother, myself and two younger sisters had the privilege of enjoying our summers there. My father would drive up on the weekends in his old work truck. The original composition was simply the face of the cabin, but it needed some life and a bit of a story so I added the Cocker Spaniel waiting for the boy coming out the screen door. The two of them used to roam freely together all day. The dog has been gone for over 60 years and the boy is now 81. As they say, how time flies. This turned out to be another frustration for the month as I found it very difficult to work without a reference.

Lovely story. Using water colour to invoke memories is a beautiful thing. I little knowledge of two point perspective would improve it, but i'm charmed by the story so i don't mind it at all.
