Landscape Watercolour Painting as an aid to Landscape Photography
With 55 years of landscape photography experience I was looking for new ways to understand my subject. Learning to paint in watercolour appealed as an ideal companion.
After following videos, reading books and painting from existing watercolours I eventually reached a point of creating my own works from start to finish. This was a big shock - it felt like 85% of the effort is deciding composition, tones, colour and feeling - something which videos and existing paintings had already provided. By the time I pick up a brush the 15% of mechanical input feels like the home stretch.
Now I just have to put the cameras down more often and pick up a brush

I started out in my youth painting and drawing, then, then, like yourself, became a landscape photographer. Trouble was, I found I was taking pictures to please others , so I returned to painting, and I found this gave me a much closer connection to the landscape, while painting or drawing outside, I found I was always left with the memory of making that work which photography didn't give me. Like your work, nicely composed, and the sky is fantastic.
