Tarella Cottage

Tarella Cottage 1890– Spent a very enjoyable morning painting this watercolour in the grounds of this lovely little cottage that is a house museum owned by the Blue Mountains Historical Society, after we had explored all the collections inside. The bright morning light was useful in assisting to define the volumes and elements of the cottage and the design of the decorative bargeboards, and the orange bush in the foreground was in a fortunate position to provide a contrast to the cooler colours of the house and background trees. Often do a small tonal sketch first but this was painted direct to capture the effect of the light before it changed. Hope you like this little cottage as much as we did.

Beautifully painted Marion. The bright sunlight is rendered perfectly, with the background trees framing the cottage.
