The Forum Survives....!
This is just a quick update to say that we made the transition today from the old Forum to the new technology called 'Groups.' We are pleased to say that it looks as though it will be a viable option for us, now and in the future (providing the tech teams leave us alone for a while!) Thanks to those of you who have already signed in and are starting to find their feet. Our observations so far are:
The transition initiated an email to us for every post and comment we had made on the forum....hundreds have been deleted by Olly, but our thoughts must go to Edo, who probably has thousands to go through! We had no warning of this, and so to anyone that has also received a crazy number of emails today from us, then please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. These are not the result of any malware attack, or such like, please simply delete them.
It appears that the six previous categories that existed in the forum are now treated as individual groups, and to participate in those, please accept the invite/sign in to continue accessing the posts and comments.
This new format has a Facebook-style feel to it (without all the unwanted trash) and so its functionality should have some familiarity to most of you. We are pleased that it will enable us to continue interacting with each other and building the community that the forum enabled.
Most importantly, we are delighted that, during the transfer, all your old posts, comments and interactions have been transferred - certainly as far as we can tell at this stage. We understood that this was important to you and it's great to see the content still there that you all worked so hard to provide. Result!!
We still need to familiarise ourselves with the user experience and the potential scope of what the Groups format can offer and each time we make any significant alterations to the format or user experience we will let you know. Please bear with us as we move through this transition stage.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support for this little corner of the internet and for making the experience so enjoyable and valuable for many. We're delighted that the fun can continue.......!
Please feel free to let us know of anything that we may have missed (not sure you'll have to search too hard!) that may help to make the transition and/or the overall experience better as we progress. For now, it appears to be 'business as usual' as much as that's possible!
Thanks again and best wishes to you all.
Olly & Edo
Been holding my breath for a few days now, but this seem to have worked as smoothly as one could expect - that's great! Thanks, Olly, Edo and Thom for keeping the forum alive in a way that looks very promising.
