This was a dramatic sunset, based on a photo I took last week out walking on the beach. My first attempts were far to literal and slavish to the photo, by this one (my 4th) I felt ready to just capture more the essence of the sunset as the sun melts into the low clouds. Its rays on the sand turned it to a soft pink, for this I used rose madder, which is also used with payne's grey (blue tint) in the clouds along with indian yellow for the orange. I was going to work on it more, but I like the unfinished painterly feel in the foreground, I think I will explore this more.
