Drawbridge at Cape May, New Jersey

I snapped a quick series of cellphone photos of this drawbridge when I looked back after passing under it. I liked the empty channel best (easiest to render), but also had some wonderful images of a tugboat hauling a scow with a yellow crane (a very busy and complicated picture). I painted the bridge, sky and water and used Derwent Inktense pencils for all of the railings and the bridge deck, because I wanted very fine, straight lines with hard edges. So, in response to the discussion about drafting vs. values, I think I hit a good combo where neither was sacrificed. I drew the scene first with a 5H pencil. You might observe some tiny dots in the lower sky, which are points set for the angles of the structure, but I am pretending that they are very distant Least Terns. The photos were taken in May of this year, aboard the Osprey, a bird watching vessel.
