sketch of a pond in the evening

ree

I'm still working quite small, though I know that general advice for beginers to work bigger. But I wasn't sure at all that I can pull off this scene. I wanted to capture strong evening light behind the trees. The sketch got a different feel for me. I have never worked in this style before.

I was confused on how to approach this algae on the pond - I painted first layear and then masked it to do reflections. It looks awkward. How would you do it?

Any comments are welcome!

Reference photo, though I strayd from it a bit:

I think I get it how to do it in that order, but I'll need to try it in practice to be sure. Thank you for advice, Paul!
