Questions about the sky

My concern is that in attempting to portray the rather dramatic sunset in this local wetlands area which often has rather unusual skies, I am afraid I have too many hard edges which I think happened because I was trying to incorporate all the colors I saw and also be able to protect the source of the light, the setting sun which illuminated the landscape of the marsh. I guess I am asking whether the effect is spoiled by these edges. Was this caused because my paper wasn't wet enough?

My struggle always is with the water to paint ratio and with the amount of water to have in the paper to get the effects I want to achieve. Do many of you wet the back of the paper as well as the front before you start to paint?

I love your attitude in that regard. I sometimes shy away from beautiful stuff if I'm unsure how to translate it to paint. I could probably afford to be a little more bold like that as well :)
