Paula Modersohn-Becker
I discovered this artist and found this old photo of her from 1900. I was really drawn to the image and just had to try sketching her in watercolor. I love her silhouette and how she is sitting in the landscape where she worked. Its a bit 'Whistlers mother' in composition.
There are quite a few new books out there at the moment that are dedicated solely to women artists that have been forgotten or not given the credit they deserve, so here's one to google ...

Thank you for remembering this excellent female artist. She lives from 1876 to 1907 in Worpswede in an art community near Bremen in Germany. It is a special landscape with marsh and crooked trees. Very inspiring. She was in Paris to get more inspiration. Her husband was a painter too. Unfortunately she died few days after the birth of her first child. A fascinating woman with a special and very own new way of painting, of managing colours and a special view to the people, above all the children and the poor people.
