Rainy day at the Lake

Yesterday I thought I would try sketchings at our local lake but as I arrived the rain started, so away with the sketchbook and out with the camera. I love this weather, it's moody and all the picnickers run for cover so I have the place to myself. (Alright, I'm selfish).

W&N paints, Paynes Gray, Burnt Umber, and Raw Sienna. I tried to capture the wet, overcast, peaceful mood of the scene. I chose not to include the left-hand tree and the reeds in the foreground to keep it as simple as possible. I love water but painting ripples is the bain of my life, any suggestions please?

I'm very fortunate to have such a beautiful area so close to home. I love it in the inclememnt weather. I came out from England in 1969, it must be the weird English blood in me! Living here is such a privilege being a World heritage national park but you do get tired of trees.
