Scotney castle, birthday card
I've been painting A4 watercolours as birthday presents and little A5 birthday cards for friends, trying to find something that relates to them. This is an A5 card, ink and wash, for Annette who has visited Scotney...I think. Bearing in mind the advice I had from Olly on my previous painting of this scene I took more care with the reflection measuring, lightened up on the trees so they didn't distract from the centrepiece, namely the castle, and experimented with mixing different greys for the castle. I like it better than the previous painting but can still see things I'd change if I did it again. eg the oriel windows are too definitely marked. Any suggestions most welcome

That’s a nice idea John and that will be a lovely surprise for Annette - very lucky! The changes you’ve made work a treat - the castle has far more presence in this one and, as always, the pen and wash technique look great - so underrated.
