Nocturne with shadows and light
I was drawn to the mysterious stillness of this backyard space, just down the road from me. What I find fascinating is that because its night your mind fills in the gaps and creates a story. Why is the blue light on? Why is there a van parked there? Its also easier to get away from drawing 'things' and focus on the big shapes. In this case the sky becomes the shadows and everything gets tied together.
I used a DS paint called 'Moonglow' which I would recommend if anyone else fancies giving a night scene a go. I used a cheap inch wide square end brush for the lines.

Masterful use of color and value that makes your night scene visually interesting. I think your comment about a picture evoking a story is very insightful. If a picture gives the viewer an opportunity to enter the “story” telling, it holds our attention. Perhaps that is why painting from real life instead of photos is so valued. I think great pictures have a dynamic resonance between value, color and “story”. Bravo to you!
