BNSF Railroad, Febuary, 2023
Some of my friend and I were looking for winter birds along the Rio Grande in central New Mexico when this train came 'round the bend. I was struck by the bright colors against the drab grasses and shrubs and I took a couple of quick photos with my phone. When I was back home I did a quick painting, which is a bit wobbly, but I think the train's vibrating motion was captured, and I'm pleased that the superelevated curve of the tracks came out right. I did not want to labor over the painting and tried to keep it simple. I can't remember what paper I used, possibly Fluid 100 NOT. I did use some of the Desert series of Schiminke paint for the hillside and grasses. The best thing is: I love to capture unexpected events in a painting and had a good time creating this one.

I just noticed the funny blob on the top of the hill. I need to smooth it out!
