The Orange House

I was cycling home when I noticed the light hitting the side of this old house in the city. As I was taking a photo a man with his dog walked into the frame and created a nice focal point for the image.

I painted the orange in burnt sienna with a touch of alizarin crimson in one wash and just left it alone. I painted the front side with the same wash and then went over it again with the shadow wash in a little more burnt sienna and ultramarine. Painting the colour of a thing in the first wash and then the shadow in the second was a principle I applied across the painting.
