Snowgums above a lake in the late afternoon.

Being retired and now on my own I was looking for something to pass the time and my daughter said that I may like to paint so I tossed the idea around for sometime then went on YouTube and fortunately found Ollie’s channel. I watched Ollie’s tutorials so many times and every time I would pick up some other nuance. In this painting from a photo I had taken I tried to put into practice what Ollie would emphasise such as don’t paint too much detail which is easier said than done, keep to a limited palette of colours and mix up plenty of colour with lots of water. This is my third painting in A3 as it was quite a transition for me from using A4, possibly a good subject for a tutorial. Your a true inspiration Ollie and I’m looking forward to more tutorials hopefully on more foreground techniques. ”Among the Dunes, Studland Nature Reserve“is such a beautiful painting.

Yes I think you are right there and I think he said to use Naples yellow as it was an opaque colour. My favourite part of the painting is the tree trunks, just the unpainted paper with touch of colour here and there, the paper has such nice texture.
