The below are my most recent attempts - some panoramic formats from a holiday last year. I made a couple of attempts at these, working from a sketch and value study to see if I can better translate these to a painting. Also trying out different papers - Bockingford and Arches CP 300gsm.
Any comments welcome!
Version 1 - on Bockingford CP 300 gsm. Struggled to get the values here on the trees, and the faster drying of this cellulose paper.
Version 2 - on Arches cotton CP 300gsm. Felt I had a bit more control on this, but went too dark in the sky and clouds, so everything ended up a bit darker than I wanted, though I feel like there is more connection between the colours than in Version 1.

Both are really good paintings.
I also love those papers you have tried.
Buy the 1 step heavier Bockingford, and the CP one 200lb that is.
I don't know what you are used to?
But if you try the same approach on Arches, on Bockingford you will probably say, this paper is far worse than Arches to paint on.
And no, it is not. It just need different techniques and approach.
You need to be quicker, and preferably get the placed mix right the first time you touch the paper. Go from light to dark, because when you go over a dark a second time, the first layer het wet, and damaged.
Arches is good paper, for the pros and beginners. Everyone can paint on Arches.
Not everyone can paint on Bockingford.
