This picture was inspired by a photo from a trip to an area of Utah where we spent a day exploring slot the canyons carved into the stark sandstone landscape. The reference photo shows us after we emerged from the slot canyons and began our hike back to the van. It was interesting to try a landscape with a different color palette and stark expanses of land and sky.

I tried to implement the insightful suggestions from fellow forum members. I think the changes improved the painting and better capture the feeling that this landscape evokes. Thanks for your help. Now if only someone could tell me…STOP…Step away from that painting…NO OVERWORKING. 😂
