A limited palette practise.

Awaiting Olivers book, I have bought books by Ray Campbell Smith and watched vidoes of him painting. Following his instructions to paint with only 3 colours while learning is in line with what Oliver teaches. But not so easy. Here are 2 practises with Fr, Ultramarine, Light red and raw sienna. (I added a tiny bit of primary yellow to the sienna since my brand is earthier in colour than RCS.) It is easy to get a bit muddy. Due to overworking I believe. I should also have used fresh paint for my mixes. The letterbox-painting is Bockingford. (Cellulose) That paper saved my painting a bit I believe. The other is cotton. Aiming for clarity and to practise painting water, I missed a bit.. I have a long way to go.

Cotton

Cellulose. Here the reflection of the mountain should have been darker. And the little peninsula shoul have had a straight waterline.

I love the soft mistiness in the second picture. You have achieved so much with such subtlety. Really beautiful.
