Sailing on High Seas -LNG Yiannis
This painting was inpired by a photo that I got from a friend of mine who is the captain of this ship. ( the ship does exist and it is this one https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/9879674 )
It is made with watercolours on paper that is mounted on a wooden board ( it is like an oil painting in order to get an idea) and waterproofed with wax. So the painting ddidn't need fraiming behind a glass. The colours of the photograph are not very accurate because I couldn't scan it. More accurate is the photo below where it shows the painting as it was exhibited at Tsichritzis Foundation for Visual Arts

Hi.. Yes it is a nice way to present a painting though I don't really know how long the wax will last. I used the Dorlant one that is supposed to offer a UV light protection too. But I don't know further details.
It was tricky though to mount the paper on the board that was custom made. I mean a hardboard cut in size and nailed on a regular canvas frame ( I removed the canvas) and then gessoed in order to waterproof the cardboard and then mount the paper. And that because this painting was quite large ( for a watercolour). It took me more time to figure out how to mount the paper safely than paint it... lol
But it is somewhat more affortable option than paying for a custom frame with a glass in this size.
The problem with watercolours is that you have to frame them for presentation and that is a serious cost.
