This old, dead Ponderosa Pine is in the middle of a steep reach of the Arkansas River called Brown's Canyon in central Colorado. I photographed it during a rafting/fly fishing trip last summer. High water events have torn off the middle part of the stump in an unusual way. I am always looking for unique landscape details to paint. I used paint from various manufacturers on Daler Rowey Prestige paper, which suits my style of painting very well.
