My Neighbor's Lily Pond........ a micro painting

This painting is what I like to call a micro landscape. Not because of its size, because it’s 9x12 in, but because it zooms in on an aspect of a larger landscape, much like a microscope zooms in on something that is being studied. Not the big picture, but the small picture of what is going on in a particular outdoor area, in this case my neighbor’s lily pond, which is much larger that this small portion that I chose to focus in on, and only a small section of the photograph I took.

I’m thinking of some of Monet’s waterlily paintings. Particularly, his paintings which “zoom” in on only one or two or three lilies. Last summer I saw an exhibit which contained one of his paintings which had only two lilies, which an art critic reviewed as “a lovely meditation on the passage of a moment in time.“

I am giving it as a gift to my neighbor because of all the many hours I have enjoyed looking over at his beautiful pond when I walk down my lane. I can enjoy his scenery, but not have to pay the taxes on it. 😊

Do any others of you do this sort of micro landscapes? I suppose it is somewhat like Paul’s wonderful painting of tangled brambles and ivy.

What more do I need to do to it before I give it to him?
