Dune landscapes

It’s not exactly one of my usual subjects, but a few weeks ago I painted a smaller version of this watercolor as a thank-you gift for a good friend, since she loves the dune landscapes so much. I enjoyed the process so much that I ended up painting it again for myself.

I’m not very familiar with this kind of landscape; I was there a few times many years ago, but I don’t really remember what it felt like to be there. That’s why I used photos from the internet as a reference.

Now, looking at the painting, I feel the composition turned out a bit too centered. The entry point into the scene is located almost exactly in the middle and the dunes on the right and left look quite similar to one another. Anyway, I like it.
