A Little Something for the Weekend.....

Hi everyone! Finally, I have a moment to breathe with various projects completed and a weekend of strictly no work and no commitments ahead; it's the perfect moment to marshal my resources for the week ahead (paintings for my galleries and catching up with some filming for my Patreon course.) Before I do that, I thought I would take Edo's excellent advice on Instagram this morning to post some work on here. As I've mentioned previously, social media platforms are becoming increasingly problematic as venues for hosting art - the most recent estimate I've seen is that 54% of all visual creative work on IG is now AI-generated. As a consequence, I have refrained from posting work there, and I hope you find that IG's loss is our gain here on Groups!

I won't bombard you with everything, but here's a selection of various highlights for me over the summer, some of which are gallery paintings, some commissions, and, as always, my favourites, which are some works from my sketchbooks, many done during a hot English summer, where paint dried almost instantly, cauliflowers and runbacks were everywhere - a glorious celebration of imperfection!

As always, thank you for your excellent support and participation on here, and of course to Edo for his continued steady hand in guiding the good ship!

Have a restful and thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

Olly x

I love this sketch from the heathland overlooking Poole Harbour - I painted it with a group of friends on my Coast & Countryside retreat in Dorset. It was hot and windy, and there was no time to keep working these splashy washes - they dried almost immediately. Great fun though - good memories.

More heathland sketching - this time at Arne on the other side of Poole Harbour.

A very quick sketch with the Coast & Countryside group. It's always difficult to resist the bakery - the Dorset apple cake they make is outrageously delicious; eat it warm with a huge dollop of clotted cream, without regret!

A prep sketch for a commission, involving far too many windows - I genuinely hate painting them! Mind you, topiary trees and hedges aren't a whole bundle of laughs either! That said, I like the sketch and my client was delighted with the finished painting, so all's well that ends well, I guess.

....it really helps to resolve the tonal values, so we can achieve brightness in the sky and sparkle on the water.
