Autumn Light in the Forest, a fantasy vignette

I don’t know whether to call this an abstract or a fantasy? Or perhaps it’s neither.

My work is usually representational, but since some of us are playing with paint and testing out colors, I had some fun playing with and testing out this triad. I wanted a sort of ethereal golden moonlight effect.

Carbazole Violet

Quinacridone Burnt Orange

Ultramarine Turquoise

Daniel Smith - I know that some members are not fans of Daniel Smith, but I do enjoy some DS pigments, especially when I want some granulation. Although I usually work with a rather limited palette, occasionally I like to challenge myself with something new, sort of on the side. I am in love with a couple of DS pigments, like Green Apatite Genuine and Aussie Red Gold.

Can you tell me what you think works and doesn’t work?

11x14 Arches 140# CP taped around the edges but with what I hope are some interesting vignette edges on the top and bottom. That may not work either? But no rocks were scraped!

Marco, that's impressive!

There again, it comes down to the bottom line of what the individual finds appealing to their individual aesthetic. My interest in abstraction doesn't go very far afield of representational art, even in the florals, still lifes, or portraits I do, but especially not in landscapes, because the natural landscape means so much to me. It's the old "to each his own...," isn't it? 😊
