My First landscape "sketch".
I've been attempting watercolor painting and it's been about a month since I started. Last time I painted was in high school. I am 66. 😄. This is a sketch of a wood pile in our back yard. We moved here about a year ago and that hat always struck me as funny. The shadows and light from the setting sun are often delightful there too, so I decided to try painting the woodpile and see how it came out. Here it is for your enjoyment or cringing. Some day I'd like to try the whole composition which would include other trees, the lawn and the little gulley behind the trees that fills with water in the spring.

Thank you for posting your first landscape here in the group Loren.
You picked up a beautiful hobby, and it is a difficult one too.
But a few basic rules, and you are more skilled before you know it.
I can see where you go in this painting, but it is not very clear to see the shapes.
Its mainly because they are all painted in the same value.
Painting is a bit of lying and exaggerating too.
I mean, even when it is not there, its better for the painting to make it in a way it is more clear.
When I have to paint a green tree, before a green hill, and they are almost the same colour in real. You have to work out a method, so you can see the tree.
Did you make a sketch before you painted?
In the sketch you can see and try what works best.
Like the grass before the logs must be lighter so they show before the logs.
Dark grass is also possible, but than the logs must be lighter.
You could paint the grass with a bit of body colour over the logs. By making a sketch you can try this out. No need for details, only shapes and values will do. like in this example.
Think as the house being the logs.
