The boathouse at Lake Wendouree

Looking for some thoughts about how to paint small waves - any thoughts welcome!

I'm gradually learning watercolour, and am still very much a beginner. The below is my latest - a boathouse on Lake Wendouree in Ballarat, Australia. Very much simplified, as I was working on my series of washes as much as on the subject.

The area that I am struggling with most is the waves on the water. It was a windy day and there was quite a lot of small, choppy waves - see the reference photo. I tried a few different ways to try to show this (dry brushing, painting some of the wave shapes) but nothing really worked, so I ended up doing another wash across the top to just smooth it out. I'd very much appreciate any thoughts on how to paint waves like this. (Also appreciate any other observations - been painting for 7 months, so still much to learn!)
