Exercises with Two Pigments

This summer I have been doing plein air sessions along the "North Shore" (of Boston) with a small group. I decided to challenge myself to use only 2 pigments (French Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna) for each scene. By using a warm and a cool pigment, I was able to explore temperature differences related to depth and the composition is clearer to me than with multi-pigment versions. These are the first four in the series.

Really nice sketches/watercolours with just two pigments. Always good to create something before you get to the serious watercolours. Saves valuable paper!
