Cows in moonlight
So, now for something completely different …
I watched a film a few weeks back called Cow, by a director called Andrea Arnold. She documents the life of a cow. There is no dialogue as such, it isn't sentimental in any way, it just shows us the day-to-day life of a cow on a farm. There are some very touching moments when she is separated from her calf, and some wonderful scenes when they are all let out to pasture. I'm afraid to say it doesn't end well for her, but its important to be made aware of the reality of her life. One scene is taken at night and we just see the cows under starlight. I took a photo from the TV screen. I'm interested in painting some nocturnes, so this appealed to me. I used a Daniel Smith color called moonglow mixed with french ultramarine.
... and yes I should have entitled this post 'cows in moo -nlight' - just saying before anyone else does. ;-))

What a neat painting! Neat in the sense of unique, surprising and delightful.
