Torshov Park - tree study

Hi everybody,

My main goal for the painting was to practise painting trees and branches, which I still have a bit of a hard time with. I took a risk on some basic figures (and a dog-like creature), and of course, skies. As you can see in the reference photo, it was a misty afternoon, but I wanted less mist in the painting, and more of that crispy, autumn feeling in the picture.

Painted it twice, as usual, both for the practice, but also because I put my hand in the drying paint more than once, in the first one..!

Quite pleased with several elements in both of these, and of course, still lots to work on - no worries there. I didn't plan the placement of the tree on the right well enough. Impossible to say if it's in front of, behind or right next to the pavillion, so probably should have either removed it completely, or tried to push it way more into the background.

As always, would love to hear your feedback, what you think work and what doesn't work as well, any comments are appreciated.

Yes, trees do need some brush miles spent to get ease with them because there are so many varieties on them with different structures and different textures and colors. So even though my old tutor sort of loudly called attention to my newbie tree structure to the rest of the class, I have been so thankful for that advice ever since because it gave me a sort of leap ahead in my understand of painting trees.
